This tournament is using an elimination system. Per category there is one price available. Only the champion will go home with a price. If there are less than 8 judokas in a category, the weight classes will be merged with the upper weight class. If that category is still too small the judoka who has to skip a weight class has the choice to get the registration fee back.
For example, judoka A is in the weight class -30kg, there are three participants in this weight class. This weight class will be merged with the -34kg weight class. If this weight class also has three participants, than there are six participants. The -34kg weight class will be merged with the -38kg weight class. The judokas of the -30kg weight class have to skip a weight class (namely the -34kg) they will have the choice either to accept or get the registration fee back.
All categories will be using an elimination system. From the semifinal the clubs can earn points for the Kings Cup. A place in de finals is 10 points, a place in the semifinals is 5 points.
When the points are equal, the number of finals places count, when the number of final places is equal the number of semifinal places count. When this is also equal a weight class will be selected with drawing lots, judokas will be assigned for the last match for the Kings Cup.
The club who wins the Kings Cup earns €1000,-.
When a category is finished the champion is announced. Judokas who lost the match with the champion, became third of fifth can call for a rematch. A rematch costs 75 euro, 50 euro goes to the champion and 25 euro goes to the organization. The champion can do a maximum of 2 rematches and is not allowed to select the rematch themselves. The opponent with the highest ranking goes first. If the result is the same, than the person who applied first goes next. The challenge is a best of three, if the challenger wins, he has to win again to become champion. If the champion wins once in the rematch, then he has 2 out of three matches for becoming champion is the first, no matter if he fought the challenger in the Kings Cup. If the challenger wins the best out of three there will be no more rematches and the challenger is the new champion. The old champion will lose his price.
If the matches are played in poules than only the judokas who have reached the finals can call for a rematch. Judokas from the preliminaries are eliminated. Also the judokas who lost their match with the champion and didn’t reach the finals are eliminated for a rematch.
